Baseball: Roger Clemens rests easy despite Hall of Fame snub

Roger Clemens said little publicly in the immediate aftermath of the Hall of Fame vote. More than a month later, he?s willing to share his thoughts ? but the 354-game winner is not about to start a lobbying campaign.

"I?m not going to lose any sleep over it," Clemens said. "If those guys feel I deserve to be there, then I deserve to be there. If they feel I don?t, then that?s OK too."

Clemens was at spring training Monday in Kissimmee, Fla., as a special instructor for the Houston Astros, and he spoke with the team?s pitchers about his mental approach to the game. He later watched some of the Astros throw batting practice.

Clemens, 50, was acquitted last year on charges he obstructed and lied to Congress in denying he used performance-enhancing drugs to extend his career. Last month, he fell short of the necessary votes to make the Hall of Fame.

Arbitration avoided

Reliever Darren O?Day completed a $5.8 million, two-year contract with the Baltimore Orioles on Monday, becoming the final player to settle without a hearing among the 133 who filed for arbitration Jan. 15. This was the first year since arbitration began in 1974 that no player who filed went to a hearing. Baseball?s previous record low was three hearings, set in 2005 and matched in 2009 and 2011.

Around the horn

Yankees ? Derek Jeter took part in most of the drills during the New York Yankees? first full-squad workout Monday in Tampa, Fla., participating in on-field batting practice for the first time since ankle surgery last October.

Marlins ? First baseman Casey Kotchman received four stitches to close a cut on his left ring finger after running into a pop-up machine during infield drills in Jupiter, Fla. Kotchman signed a minor-league contract with Miami on Friday.

The 15-year EMS veteran died in December in a car crash.

"He was a really, really good guy and we all miss him a lot. I inspired some people to maybe join me and do this again next year," said Ward.

Each mile of the marathon is dedicated to a non-profit.

"That's the great part of this, the tradition of our race 26 miles for 26 charities," said Hahn.

With the help of LIVESTRONG, Team Kate raised $60,000 to help other cancer survivors.?

"Knowing all the good that the money goes towards is an amazing feeling. It turned into something bigger than I ever imagined," said Voth.

India may seek UK PM David Cameron's help in VVIP chopper scam probe

India is likely to press UK PM David Cameron for assistance in probing the bribery charges over the purchase of 12 AgustaWestland AW101 VVIP helicopters. Cameron is arriving in India on Monday on a three-day official visit. According to reports, India has already issued a note verbale and met UK foreign office officials to get information and assistance in probing the allegations of corruption in the deal.

Noting that UK has provided an interim response, a ministry of external affairs (MEA) spokesperson added that nobody was ever satisfied by an interim response. "Everybody would want a fullfledged response. So, I mean it is pretty obvious that we would like a full-fledged response," he said, indicating that it is likely to figure in Indo-UK talks on Tuesday.

Westland used to be a UK firm before it was taken over by Italian defence giant Finmeccanica. Cameron, accompanied by a large official business delegation. will hold comprehensive talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on a wide range of bilateral, regional and international issues. Apart from the defence deal, other major issues expected to figure during Cameron's visit would include the `12,000-crore Vodafone tax dues matter and the UK hosting a meeting between the Pakistan and Afghanistan presidents.

While the Vodafone issue also figured during the recent visit of finance minister P. Chidambaram to the UK, details of the UK-Pak-Afghan trilateral meet was being finely studied by New Delhi.

According to reports, Cameron also wants to use the trip to correct any misunderstandings about his government's move to bring immigration numbers under control.
