It?s quite the opposite actual. It?s about taking control of your life, your personal power, and making it the way you want. Statistics show that only a small percentage of people will read more than a book a year after they graduate from school. This is such a shame. There is so much one can learn and improve upon.
So what tools are available if you want to improve yourself? There are books of course.
What better way to learn how to improve an aspect of your life than to read the strategies of people who have mastered it? Another tools is watching videos or attending seminars. If you drive a lot, one great tool is audio programs. Many successful people recommend to use your driving time to learn by simply listening to an audio CD instead of music. If you have a library card, you can get most of this stuff for free. There really isn?t a reason why you shouldn?t make self improvement a part of your life.

It's been a few months since we last heard about the legal kerfuffle between Sky and pub owner Karen Murphy. In case you've been out of the loop, it all started when the UK broadcasting giant went after Murphy for using what was deemed to be an illegal method for screening FA Premier League matches at her, or any, bar. Conn. prosecutor weighs charges in Christmas blaze

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) ? A prosecutor is deciding whether to file criminal charges in the deaths of three girls and their grandparents on Christmas morning in an accidental blaze that authorities say was started after a contractor discarded a bag of fireplace ashes at the tony shoreline home.
The case has been followed closely in part because of the high profile of the girls' mother, fashion advertising executive Madonna Badger, who escaped the fire along with her friend Michael Borcina, a contractor who had been renovating the $1.7 million Victorian home on Long Island Sound.
While investigators say the blaze was clearly accidental, it's not uncommon for people, including family members, to be charged with crimes such as involuntary manslaughter for unintentionally starting deadly fires.
David Cohen, who has been Stamford's top prosecutor for more than a decade, received a report from police investigators last week and has declined to comment on the case. He has worked on other high-profile cases, including a chimpanzee mauling in which he declined to pursue charges against the animal's owner. Attorneys who have worked with him say he won't be swayed by the emotion surrounding the case.
"His decision-making process is never a rush to judgment," said Howard Ehring, a Stamford public defender. "I've heard him say many times we don't want to prosecute an innocent person nor do we want to prosecute someone who is overcharged."
Authorities have said they believe Borcina placed the ashes in or near an entryway, near the trash of the Stamford home.
The fire killed Badger's 7-year-old twins, Grace and Sarah Badger, 9-year-old daughter, Lily, and Badger's parents, Lomer and Pauline Johnson.
It is unusual for police to make arrests in connection with fires started by improperly discarded fireplace ashes, but there have been examples of relatives being held responsible for other fires.
In Columbus, Ohio, a 34-year-old woman was charged this month with involuntary manslaughter for a December apartment fire that killed her two young daughters. Police say the woman was drunk when she left food cooking on a stove that started the fire.
In Houston, 22-year-old Jessica Tata is charged with murder for a February 2011 fire at her home day care that killed four children and injured three others. Police say she left a stove burner on and left the children alone in the home while she went shopping. Tata has expressed remorse for the children's deaths.
In December, a 54-year-old woman from Wasilla, Alaska, was indicted by a grand jury on a manslaughter charge for accidentally starting a fire that killed her 6-year-old grandson. Prosecutors say that the fire started in her bedroom, where she had been smoking, and that she had been drinking alcohol.
In Connecticut, police say they haven't made a recommendation about possible criminal charges.
Legal experts say if Cohen decides to prosecute, potential charges could include reckless manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide. A manslaughter charge has a high standard in which authorities must show a person was aware of a substantial risk and disregarded it. For criminally negligent homicide, authorities must only prove that the person should have realized there was a danger, said William Dunlap, a Quinnipiac law professor.
Borcina could face heightened scrutiny because of his background as a contractor and his likely knowledge of the dangers of placing the embers near the house, said Stephan Seegar, a Stamford-based criminal defense attorney.
Borcina's attorney, Gene Riccio, declined to comment.
Badger's attorney, Stan Twardy, said, "I'm confident Mr. Cohen will exercise appropriate judgment in this matter."
The investigation also looked at issues related to the renovation and whether smoke detectors were in the house.
There were plans for hard-wired smoke alarms, but they had not been hooked up, officials have said. It was unclear whether battery-operated akarns were being used.
The state building code requires smoke detectors in new home construction, according to Joseph V. Cassidy, acting state building inspector. It also requires that smoke detectors be added in older homes as part of most residential additions or interior alterations, he said.
Prosecutors met Wednesday with the girls' father, Matthew Badger, a television commercial director who lives in New York, and Badger's attorney.
Madonna Badger worked on Calvin Klein campaigns. Fashion designers Calvin Klein and Vera Wang, rocker Lou Reed and actor Philip Seymour Hoffman were among those who attended the girls' funeral in New York.
A case may get a closer look when it's followed by intense media attention, said Hugh Keefe, a prominent defense attorney in New Haven.
"When the media is on a case, it's been my experience the state and federal government act a little more carefully," Keefe said. "But I don't think the ultimate decision is going to be any different."
Defense attorneys who know Cohen say he carefully weighs evidence in cases.
Mark Sherman, a Stamford-based criminal defense attorney, said Cohen isn't pressured by high-profile cases, noting that in 2009, Cohen decided not to prosecute the owner of a chimpanzee that mauled the owner's friend.
"I think he did the right thing, even though the injuries were devastating," Sherman said.
However, Cohen did charge a swimming pool company president with second-degree manslaughter in connection with the drowning of a 6-year-old boy because Cohen said the company failed to install a required safety device. David Lionetti last year pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide, a misdemeanor, and was spared prison time.

Criminal gangs are increasingly using the internet to market life-threatening counterfeit medicines and some have even turned up in legitimate outlets such as pharmacies, according to a review led by Dr Graham Jackson, editor of IJCP, the International Journal of Clinical Practice, and published in the March edition.
Latest estimates suggest that global sales of counterfeit medicines are worth more than $75 billion, having doubled in just five years between 2005 and 2010. Numerous studies have also reported large numbers of websites supplying prescription only drugs without a prescription and people buying internet drugs despite being aware of the dangers.
"Counterfeit medicines pose an every-increasing threat to public health, including death and inadequate healthcare as a result of self medication" says Dr Jackson. "Particularly worrying examples include counterfeit cancer and heart drugs and fake vaccines sold during the bird and swine flu scares.
"The majority of medicines people buy from unverified internet sites are counterfeit and often lack the active ingredients they claim. Others have variable concentrations of active ingredients or even contain dangerous toxins, such as arsenic, boric acid, leaded road paint, floor and shoe polish, talcum powder, chalk and brick dust and nickel.
Counterfeit medicines are a major concern to the authorities and significant European Union legislation is being developed, including stronger penalties. As outgoing European Commissioner for Enterprise and Industry Gunter Verheugen said in 2010: "Every faked drug is a potential massacre. Even when a medicine only contains an ineffective substance, this can lead to people dying because they think they are fighting their illness with a real drug."
Facts and figures highlighted in Dr Jackson's review include:
- European Union seizures and detentions are increasing and medicines accounted for 10% of all detained materials in 2009.
- There is clear evidence that counterfeit drugs are being found in legitimate supply chains. For example, the UK has had nine product recalls in the last three years after counterfeit medicines reached pharmacy and patient levels and a further five were discovered at wholesaler level.
- A UK study of 96 websites selling painkillers, found that 48% sold drugs that should be only supplied on prescription and 76% of those did so without a prescription. And a US study of 159 sites offering controlled drugs found that 85% did not require a prescription.
- 21% of the 14,000 plus people who took part in a 14-country European study had bought prescription only medicines without a prescription. The figure was 12% in the UK.
- Another study estimated that 9% of Europeans had bought online prescription only drugs, even though 69% agreed that it was a 'bad idea' or 'dangerous'. Cheaper costs (46%) and convenience (30%) were the most common reasons.
- The UK medical newspaper GP reported that 33% of the 423 doctors it surveyed said that they had treated, or suspect they had treated, a patient for the side-effects of substandard prescription only drugs purchased online.
- A study carried out by the European Alliance for Access to Safe Medicines found that 62% of medicines ordered on the internet were substandard or counterfeit. Of these, 68% were unlicensed imitations and the rest were counterfeit branded medicines. The study also found that 90% of sites did not require a prescription for prescription only drugs.
- Five 'Tamiflu' vaccines tested by the American Food and Drugs Administration contained no active ingredient at all and a further four contained varying levels unapproved for use in the USA.
- An analysis of 2,383 seized 'Viagra' samples carried out by Pfizer found that only 14% were authentic.
- Internet security experts estimate that 25% of all email is spam advertising counterfeit and/or unlicensed drugs.
"Counterfeiters produce medicines with no regard for the health consequences of those using them, with cancer and heart drugs being increasingly targeted, along with opportunist drugs like flu vaccines" says Dr Jackson.
"We even found reports that a 13-year-old had bought the psychostimulant drug Ritalin online, that underweight, underage patients were able to buy diet drugs and that men were able to buy impotence drugs despite clear indications that taking them could have serious health consequences.
"There have also been reports of deaths from Internet drugs and some investigators suspect that many more have been overlooked or wrongly attributed to other causes.
"It is vital that healthcare professionals play a proactive role in fighting the rise in counterfeit medicines by reporting all suspected cases to the relevant health authorities. And patients should be advised to avoid unregulated internet pharmacies and to be suspicious of sites offering prescription only medication without a prescription or at substantial discounts."

Currently, 64 of those projects remain in the running for a piece of the up to $1-million available and Canadians have until 5pm EST this Friday to ?cheer? in support of the programs in their city or province. By visiting OurCommunityCheer.com and registering their cheers before the deadline, the public will determine which projects make it through as finalists ? provided they receive 225 cheers or more. A committee formed by Molson Coors will evaluate the successful finalists and the donation recipients will be announced on March 21st.
The projects will be evaluated based on four key criteria:
- The amount of community cheer and support
- The ability to meet application criteria
- The project?s alignment with Molson Coors values
- The positive social impact on the community and ability to demonstrate success

OSOYOOS ? Town of Osoyoos: Enhance and develop the BMX track as an addition to the existing recreation facilities.
VANCOUVER ? BC Wheelchair Basketball Society: Providing a first class event to wheelchair basketball participants from across Canada.
ALBERTA:
CALGARY - Banff Trail Community Association: Rebuild outdoor rink to attract a new generation of young hockey players and skaters.
EDMONTON ? The Brintnell Park Society of Edmonton: Build an outdoor rink to encourage adults to exercise and lead active, healthy lives.
SASKATCHEWAN:
CANDLE LAKE ? Candle Lake Sports Park Committee: To build a multiuse and multi-season sports complex which includes hard surface for court sports.
CHURCHBRIDGE ? The New Churchbridge Swimming Pool Committee: To replace Churchbridge?s 40-year old, seriously deteriorated pool with a new, easily accessible facility.
PARADISE HILL ? Paradise Hill Active Park: Resurface the tennis/basketball courts so they can be enjoyed free of charge.
RADVILLE ? Radville Laurier Regional Park: Construction of a new swimming facility for people to cool off and have fun.
REDVERS ? Redvers & District Recreation Centre: Build a much needed softball/slowpitch diamond on the grounds.
STRASBOURG ? Strasbourg and District Recreation Center: Replace doors of the Community Centre to keep serving the physical needs of the community.
WARMAN ? Warman Multi-Purpose Facility Committee Inc: Improve facilities for sports, culture, recreation and wellness.
MANITOBA:
RIVERS & AREA ? Riverdale Community Complex Fundraising Committee: Finish the second floor of the building which contains the kitchen, hall, lift and lounge areas.

BRANTFORD - Alzheimer Society of Brantford: Create a Community Hub to serve those aging with a disability.
CLARINGTON ? A River Runs Through Us: Further development of the hiking trails and the outdoor living activity area within Bowmanville Creek Valley.
DRYDEN ? Dryden Ball Diamonds Committee: Do the Molson Coors Cheer and let?s get our bleachers this year!
GREENBANK ? The Greenbank Hall and Park Board Committee: Greenbank Park needs more votes to replace 40 year old bleachers. Our whole community benefits!
